When you interview for a new position, much of the conversation focuses on you and how you’d fill the given role and meet the expected qualifications. As a result, you spend a lot of time selling yourself and your skills.

But choosing to take a new job isn’t just about what you will do for the company— it’s also about whether the company is a good fit for your professional goals and day-to-day happiness. You’ll spend roughly 40 hours a week at work, so you need to make sure this job is one in which you’ll flourish.

To find out if a company or role is the right fit, ask these 10 questions.

Aim to connect with interviewers, not impress them

In an interview it’s important to come across as likeable. So, to maximise confidence, your energy should be focused on building a rapport with your interviewer rather than impressing him or her.

“We often get the idea that confidence is about holding court whereas it’s more to do with putting people at ease. It helps to focus on connecting with people rather than focusing on the performance,” says Dr Gary Wood, chartered psychologist and author.

“How long should my CV be?” This is a question that has been pondered for years by jobseekers and is still a cause of debate across the recruitment industry. Although there is no single, definitive rule, the general consensus is that you should try to keep it as close to two pages as you can.

This can be difficult to achieve, especially when you have years of experience you want to show the prospective employer. So, to create an interview-winning CV, it’s vital that you understand the importance of CV length and the need to keep yours short.

September is always a busy time of year for job seekers looking to start or build their careers and find their perfect role. Back in my day filling in a job application meant handwriting pages worth of answers on paper but thankfully, in our contemporary society, everything is done online. Of course this makes the process 1000x more efficient but at risk of sounding really old, it can also incur silly avoidable mistakes because people get lazy.


I know applying for multiple jobs can be frustrating but you must always treat every application as its own separate entity and avoid falling into bad habits like haphazardly copy and pasting.


I’ve had some crackers in the past; applicants forgetting to remove the job role or business from the last copy and paste, applicants addressing me with the wrong name, applicants copy and pasting the same paragraph three times, applicants answering the wrong questions…the list goes on.


Here are some of the most common mishaps I’ve come across and why you need to avoid them entirely;

The woman had an incredible resume, an infectious personality, and, seemingly, a great work ethic. She was dressed for success, with a style fitting our culture. She answered all of my questions well, and seemed like a potential excellent fit for our company. Yet, despite all of this, she didn’t receive another interview, and I absolutely couldn’t seriously consider hiring her. What went wrong?




When I asked her what questions she had for me, the job candidate replied, “None, really. I’ve been following you guys online for awhile and feel like I know everything already.”


That was a fatal error, of course. By not asking questions, she told me she wasn’t truly interested in learning more, in creating value, and in our company. I couldn’t hire an otherwise very-well-qualified candidate because, in her lack of questions, she displayed a lack of passion for, interest in, and curiosity about our company and the position.


The most important thing you must do in every interview is to ask great questions.


The key is to ask great questions- not to ask questions that you should know the answers to already (“What does the position entail?) or questions that make it all about you (“What is your vacation policy?”)


Here are 9 great questions you can use or make your own on your next job interview. Obviously they're generic and should be tailored based on circumstances:

Last year, I published The 1 Thing You Must Do In Every Job Interview. The article received a lot of feedback—some in support and some in opposition. Interviews have remained a hot topic for me over the past year, especially as I work to scale our team at Likeable Local. This year, I thought I'd ask my friends over at the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) about the 1 most impressive interview question to ask.


The YEC is an invite-only organization comprised of the world’s most promising young entrepreneurs. I asked these CEO's and entrepreneurs what single most impressive interview questions applicants have asked (or they they wish applicants would ask). These are their answers, followed by mine:

平時煮意粉，一定要先煮滾水，再放意大利粉，用沸水煮才會快熟及不會黐在一起，但一定要不停攪拌，要不然意大利粉會很易黐煲底，洗也洗死你。如果不想起勢攪無時停，其實也有辦法，就是加入牛油或橄欖油，一開始只要攪拌幾下就可以由得它自己煮，有油份令其不黐底，完全不用睇火也可以。煮意粉要下鹽，除了令意粉入味外，鹽份亦可以令水的沸點更高，意粉會更易熟和不易腍。而意粉熟後通常會回鑊連醬汁同煮，所以烚意粉時間要比包裝指示少1至2分鐘，剪開 麪條見到有小白點便可。緊記以上幾點，煮意粉唔黐底話咁易！

食蔬果，唔少人都會食果肉唔食皮，好似薯仔皮咁，唔係芝士煙肉焗都唔會有人食，原來薯仔含有豐富的鉀，有穩定情緒及血壓功效，只要洗刷乾淨便可拿來作香脆健康的小吃。而經常用來做泰式菠蘿炒飯的原個菠蘿，剩下的菠蘿皮不妨用來煲水，其豐富鳳梨酵素可幫助消化肉類，飯後飲最適合。


■薯仔皮以小刷在水龍頭下洗擦表皮，可以將殘留農藥和泥污徹底清除。

■在薯皮淋上橄欖油，灑上粗鹽拌勻後，放入預熱至200℃焗爐，焗15分鐘即成。

夜麻麻肚仔餓，老公想出去偷食，而你諗住煮個公仔 麪，就想留住他，未免太 Hea！今次等紅廚吳師傅教大家做個芝士汁豬頸肉公仔 麪，簡簡單單就可以食到老公舔舔脷，要留人、留胃簡直輕而易舉！

1.用慢火煮1湯匙牛油，加1湯匙蒜茸爆香，倒入250毫升雞湯，放2片芝士，煮溶後熄火加生粉水至稠身。

2.煎熟豬頸肉；公仔 麪煮熟過冷河，與芝士汁拌勻。

心思思想吃軟糖？嫌外面的口味不啱心水，又嫌糖份過高？不妨試試自己動手做，除了可以用不同果汁自定口味外，自己做比買回來更具心思，而且又可以控制糖份，特別節日送給朋友也可以！

做法：

有沒有想過朱古力及棉花糖可以溝得埋？答案是絕對可以外，溝埋後叮一叮，就做成像慕絲般的朱古力棉花杯，又軟又滑，做簡易版甜品便最好不過。

1.叮溶朱古力將各120克的棉花糖及朱古力弄碎，以中溫叮1分鐘至溶。

2.混合暖奶趁熱拌勻後，加3湯匙暖牛奶拌勻，倒入杯中。

3.雪至凝固將朱古力杯放雪櫃雪30分鐘至凝固，放白朱古力粒及朱古力棒裝飾即成！

夏天熱辣辣，窩在家中嘆凍飲看電視也是樂事，配上這個隨手可得的 麪包，加上美味的飯素及冷 麪汁，做出脆卜卜的零食，簡直會令人吃上癮！

1.麥包切邊，用 麪棍壓扁，一開四，以筷子捲成曲形。 2.放入180℃焗爐，烘6分鐘，浸入冷昆布冷 麪汁，沾上魚仔芝麻飯素。 3.再放入180℃焗爐烘4分鐘即成。
